Toric Contact Lenses For Astigmatism

Toric Contact Lenses Give Hope To Astigmatism Sufferers

A terrible affliction was once thought of Astigmatism as it made the world dark for everyone who suffered from it. At one stage, not even glasses were there to provide a bit of comfort to those people with Astigmatism. They had limited benefits to offer when they came along. Those with other conditions were relieved when contact lenses came on the market and things got even worse.

Lenses did not fit those with astigmatism since they have irregularly shaped cornea and so again, they were hopeless. Then came toric contact lenses which were specifically designed for people with Astigmatism. They are made to fit the eyes of those with oddly shaped corneas. Because the shape just won’t fit, normal lenses would just keep on falling off when used by people with astigmatism.

Toric contact lenses differ from the regular ones because they are weighted on the bottom. This enables the wearer to move their eyes without worrying about the lenses falling off. Astigmatism sufferers have never enjoyed this kind of relief before. Best of all, the same choice as normal contacts is being offered by toric lenses.

Soft toric lenses became the most popular because they provide extreme comfort. These lenses can be worn all day even during your physical activities and what’s more to it is that you can just completely forget about them. Another kind of lens which is far less likely to fall out and can fit better on the cornea is know as RGP or rigid gas permeable lenses. They are much more durable and are less expensive though they are not as comfortable as the soft lenses.

If it’s only mild astigmatism that you’re suffering from, you may enjoy clear vision with just a regular RGP lens. It is also possible to wear toric contact lenses in style with a variety of colored lenses available. Because toric contact lenses are more specialized, they are more expensive than the regular ones. This makes it best for you to visit your optometrist if you are unsure of the condition of your eyes as they can conduct some eye tests to determine astigmatism or any other optical ailments.

It is also common to have astigmatism in only one eye. In such case, a regular lens may take care of one eye and only one toric contact lens will be required for the affected eye. If you are having other eye problems aside from the astigmatism that you have, multi-focal lenses on top of toric contact lenses may be prescribed to you. This should enable them to see all objects far away and close up. Normal contact lenses sure cost less but astigmatism sufferers would gladly pay the extra cost of toric lenses for them to enjoy better vision. The hope of those suffering from an eye condition that made people’s lives miserable back then, comes from toric contact lenses. Although there is no proper cure for astigmatism at present, toric lenses are an admirable substitute.
